"That was Gerald saying that. Oh yeah, I'm Gerald. So yeah, that's me saying that."
--Jessie
"Does she have to sleep standing up then?"
--Scott on Mr. Leena not being able to lie.
The fifth episode in The Dark Seas of Infinity's Funland: Dark Echoes mini-series.
Session Date: 10 June 2026
Scenario
Continuing from episode four, an amusement park called Funland with a life of its own, has become a dreadful abyss for four women who were unaware of the terror they would endure. Indescribable events have now led the women to venture, unknowingly, through dark echoes of the past.
Previously on Funland: Dark Echoes...one investigator lay on the floor out cold. When we rejoined our fearless investigators, our trusted lab assistant's full bladder quickly empties. One of the remaining two students bravely crossed the dilapidated obstacle course to offer aid to the fallen pharmacist. One scared chick made a quick emergency exit with another's dog while near by, a body was carried out another emergency exit. There's some running, a fortune gets told, a machine was torn apart, and a reunion had. Answers from a brother are provided, but they only produce more questions...as expected in a place like this. And just who are Ena and this Phantom guy?
Characters
Jessie is the Games Master, the Keeper of Arcane Lore.
Edna Atkins (Scott), a lab assistant who has been hired by Leena Caso to help with her research into some sort of medication.
Leena Caso (Roz), a pharmacist on a mission to get the correct ingredients for a medication gone wrong. A pharmacist on the inside but on the outside she's a tough, strapping young frat boy with muscles for miles, a Greek lettering tattoo of Alpha Sigma Sigma on his left pectoral, and dirty blonde hair. Also, is that a spray tan he's sporting?
JJ Miller (Jason), a film student who is out to tackle a new film genre known as "found footage." He hopes this hair brain idea is the one that will finally break the mold. --WITHDRAWN--
Jennifer Jabran (Nickey), a student of investigative journalism. This character is being resurrected by Nickey, and this incarnation of Jennifer now gets to chase her dream of obtaining a college degree. Jennifer has also brought along Molly, her Australian Sheppard canine.
Sylvia Gordon (Patrick), a post-doctorate student who has been dragged to the park by a another student interested in making some sort of...movie. This better have been worth that 50 bucks.
NPCs
Gerald: Edna's younger brother and Leena's research patient. He is a special needs ,sweet caring young man who only wants the best for everyone.
Safiya Ali: found hanging by the throat on the chairoplanes apparently deceased, she turned out to be quite alive and just attempting to escape this place through suicide. That didn't work out well for her.
Aunt Jamie: Jennifer's lost aunt is found by a make shift bunker she built to hide away from all others. She seems to have an inability to stay awake, and she might be doing terrible things when asleep.
Episode Log
The investigators reach the chairoplanes. What was it that fortune dude said about these things? --shrugs--
Oh look, it's a corpse hanging from one of the chains. As soon as she is spotted, a statically sound is heard coming from J J's backpack. It's followed by a female scream, and then, "help me...get me out of here." is heard. What kind of help? This is the 90s, there's no YouTube.
Sanity roll time as it appears this corpse is not a corpse after all. Everyone passes except Roz, because of course! Mr. Leena then faints, again. Are they going for their black belt in passing out?
Edna has Gerald lift the woman by her feet with his shoulders to take her weight off the chains. Technically, she's being saved. Realistically, they both look ridiculous.
When asked, Gerald states the woman is Safiya who he hasn't seen in ages. He thought she left by divesting her lies. Apparently she unpacked her dishonesty and her suitcase.
Sylvia is able to detect from the marks on Safiya's neck that she has been hanging there for days. This park would so, like, only get one star in today's social media climate.
Jennifer climbs a ladder and frees Safiya, causing Gerald to wobble a bit but successfully lowers her to the ground. I bet his vertebrae wants a divorce after that maneuver.
Holding her quickly healing throat, Safiya scoots away from the group muttering to herself. It appears that was just a minor cut-throat incident after all.
Mr. Leena is back and wondering what is going on. They could really use an espresso.
Safiya's ramblings are, you guessed it, strange. Talking about being dead and coming back to life repeatedly, and that the carnival keeps coming to town. Really though, that's a fitting soundtrack for this place, isn't it?
Gerald explains he has also healed quickly whenever he was injured or returned from the idol. Edna asks about this idol thing and Gerald goes on a long rant. He was most definitely not idle when it came to this topic.
Sylvia and Jennifer, having continued their search for Jennifer's aunt, and come across this make-shift bunker where they hear a voice say, "not again, I woke up again." It turned out to actually be Jennifer's aunt. And just like that the aunt-ticipation of finding her was over.
That spirit box that everyone heard earlier comes back to life, but when Jennifer looks in the bag that's holding it, she see's it blown to pieces. It essentially became confetti, but not in a good way.
At least there was a No-Doz to help Aunt Jamie stay awake. She was now ready to rage a one person war against taking a nap.
Turns out Mr. Leena's radio is no longer functioning, broken from all her fainting. In the end, that walkie talkie died from blunt force passing out.
Edna shouldn't be a lab assistant, she should be a detective considering her effective Bad Cop / Good Cop routine that snaps Sophia out of her delirium and convinces her to tag along. She went from calling her a 'stubborn lunatic' to offering her a juice box.
Safiya rambles on about her friends...dishonesty literally set them free.
Edna finds a mirror, Gerald takes the mirror, he gives the mirror to Mr. Leena, Mr. Leena stares into it, and this smokey mist leaves Mr. Leena and goes into the mirror. How many brain cells did this just cost them?
So that didn't work. Leena still looks like Mr. Leena, though all her lies have vanished from her person. Now, it seems, Mr. Leena is totally speechless.
From a failed sanity roll, Jennifer fires her shotgun and shoots Gerald point blank.
Jamie trips over Molly's leash and gets tangled up in it.
Sylvia kneels screaming and crying.
Edna lunges for the shotgun.
Mr. Leena administers first aid to Gerald.
Don't worry about Gerald though, this place heals... remember? He quickly recovers and Edna managed to snatched the shotgun away from Jennifer. Edna is making sure Jennifer is simply a one hit wonder.
Sylvia's anxiety is through the roof so she gets out her trail mix and starts stress eating. It's the perfect food for this occasion: the nuts match her growing panic, the raisins represent her shriveled sanity, and the chocolate chips? Well, those are just a reminder that the world is indeed...melting.
Trivia
First occurrence of a character casting a spell. Mr. Leena casts a spell that transferred their lies into a mirror they was holding.
