The second episode in The Dark Seas of Infinity's Funland: Dark Echoes mini-series.
Session Date: 6 May 2026
Scenario
Continuing from episode one, a once operational amusement park called Funland, now abandoned, becomes the setting for a mysterious adventure through dark echoes of the past. Where the former public relations manager, Ena Matthews, was unsuccessful in preserving the park’s reputation and has seemingly vanished off the face of the planet. Or has she?
After arriving at the park in separate cars, two groups of individuals slowly, and cautiously, make their acquaintance. One group, consisting of three college kids, have come here to attempt to make a found footage film. The other group, consisting of a pharmacist and her side-kick lab assistant, are on a mission of sorts to perfect a medication and to perhaps find a missing soul. As things get going, one student learns the negative effects of eating from a gas station, another becomes the proud owner of a shotgun, while our lab assistant becomes highly excited to pet a dog. Then a mirror falls...
Characters
Jessie is the Games Master, the Keeper of Arcane Lore.
Edna Atkins (Scott): a lab assistant who has been hired by Leena Caso to help with her research into some sort of medication.
Leena Caso (Roz): a pharmacist on a mission to get the correct ingredients for a medication gone wrong. A pharmacist on the inside but on the outside she's a tough, strapping young frat boy with muscles for miles, a Greek lettering tattoo of Alpha Sigma Sigma on his left pectoral, and dirty blonde hair. Also, is that a spray tan he's sporting?
JJ Miller (Jason): a film student who is out to tackle a new film genre known as "found footage." He hopes this hair brain idea is the one that will finally break the mold.
Jennifer Jabran (Nickey): a student of investigative journalism. This character is being resurrected by Nickey, and this incarnation of Jennifer now gets to chase her dream of obtaining a college degree. Jennifer has also brought along Molly, her Australian Sheppard canine.
Sylvia Gordon (Patrick): a post-doctorate student who has been dragged to the park by a another student interested in making some sort of...movie. This better have been worth that 50 bucks.
NPCs
Two creatures of unknown composition
Episode Log
J J wakes up and notices what everyone else missed (everyone failed this spot-hidden roll), tire tracks that were recently made. Obviously, J J is now in charge of noticing what others don't.
While filming what he considers B roll for his film, J J backs into that big disembodied clown head, and turns to look at it. He feels warmth...smells smoke...sees a glow...hears screams. Senses something about a...fire? So probably just clowning around actually.
Edna tries to climb up onto the tiger's head to get close to the mirrored ceiling, and falls. This was not an "Eye of the Tiger" moment for her at all.
Leena and Jennifer notice hate graffiti painted all over the carousel, but Sylvia and Edna don't. They're the only ones with the Street Art expansion pack installed apparently.
Sylvia, stuck in her own thoughts, believes that everything going on is just J J hazing them. Did he bring a hazing handbook along on this excursion as well? He's such a prankster.
Suddenly three strings snap...three mirrors fall. Roz gets her wish. The results:
The first mirror falls right in front of Leena and she experiences pareidolia by seeing a featureless face in the gray, smokey, milky cloudiness contained in the mirror.
The second falls behind Edna, just as she is falling off the Tiger, and she lands on top of it, unscathed.
The third bounces on the ground before crashing on a rock. When it shatters, a smokey mist rises up out of it coalescing into two humanoid shapes that move as if using limbs was new to them. A dancing sack of potatoes has more coordination then they do. What a mist-ery.
Jennifer's reaction is to dart toward Sylvia. Sylvia then grabs ahold of Jennifer's arm and they take off running toward the exit gate. As they do so, Sylvia screams J J's name. Molly follows her mom obediently. Talk about a (wo)man's best friend!
This prompts Jason to ask who Molly is. Come on Jason, read the recaps. Or do you prefer to skip the "Previously On" because you relish in genuine confusion?
J J hears Sylvia's screams and notices the girls down by the Giddy Giggler running toward him. Thinking they're already in character, he begins setting up his camera to film them. J J would have probably been one to focus on organizing deck chairs as the Titanic was sinking.
Edna, being the talkative, kind person she is, attempts to speak to one of the creatures. She fails. She then walks backward away from it. To Edna the "Gup A bop. A gup." the creature said was nonsense but really it was explaining the meaning to life. Which, we all know, is 42.
The other creature approaches Leena and Leena attempts to fight it off. Leena loses. As Leena comes into contact with it, Leena starts seeing a vision where Leena is a man in prison. Well, it's not only a vision because the creature dissolves into Leena causing Leena's physical appearance to change into a man. Good bye Leena. Hello, ... stay tuned.
If we're keeping score, it's creatures 2, Humans 0. Put another way, Jessie's winning.
Let's note here that at this point Roz's Mr. Leena is losing sanity points faster than it takes a hot knife to slice butter.
Enda witnesses Leena's sudden transformation and is unphased (Scott is exceling at passing sanity rolls this episode), by it. She moves toward Mr. Leena and manages to skirt pass the other creature in the process. The creature continues to head toward the Scooby Gang film crew trio. Maybe that "Gup A bop. A gup." actually meant "I will not harm you." Did Edna actually manage to communicate with it? Is she a creature whisperer?
The film crew trio spots the creature heading toward them and Nickey has Jennifer use the shotgun she found. You go Nickey, you a bad motherf****r! Initially she fails but spends luck to hit her target. Yeah! However, she only manages to shoot a hole through it which reforms. Conclusion: Luck spent. Worthless hit. Double bad luck misfortune, but she's still a bad ass.
We now get an opposed roll between Jennifer and her dog Molly. Human wins, and hopefully Molly gets a treat out of this ordeal.
While laying in the mud to avoid shots from a crazy gun-totting, bad ass Jennifer, Edna reveals to Mr. Leena that they're both looking for Edna's brother - Gerald. Did anyone have this twist on their bingo card?
By saying her brother's name, Edna now hears Gerald's voice asking her about some paperwork. And apparently Mr. Leena is too distraught over her sudden sex change to question Edna about Gerald being her brother.
Mean while Jennifer uses her flashlight to try and spot Edna and Leena, who have now decided to head back into the park to search for Gerald.
While these two near another building, they are interrupted when they get a sense of being watched. Edna sees something that appears to be eyes amongst the mesh and strands connecting the supports, the struts, and the hidden tracks. There are also these barely visible figures hanging from those same unseen tracks. Two blind mice...looking for their third.
So much has happened in and out of the game that everyone has forgotten about the walkie-talkies. Scott suddenly remembers them and reminds everyone of this. Meta-reminder time.
Sylvia continues to try and leave the park but the exit gate is blocked by relocated roller-coaster supports and some type of stringy-mesh sewn between each pillar. She reverses course, runs into J J, and tries to explain this to him. J J doesn't believe her hysterics and has to see this for himself. Tell him there's an invisible man in the sky that created the universe, and J J will believe it. Tell him there is wet paint, and he'll have to touch it. We see you J J, we see you.
And we're left with the film crew trio heading toward the gate (Jennifer followed behind J J and Sylvia) and the Gerald group at a cross-path further in the park.
We will continue these misadventures next Wed - same Funland time, same Funland channel.
